When I was being installed at Seeds of Faith Lutheran Church in Lisbon (back when they were a mission start) Bishop Phil Hougen presided at my installation. He started his sermon by looking me right in the eye and saying, “You’re not good enough to do this job. ”Ah! Don’t tell these folks my secret,” I thought.
Then he went on to say none of us are good enough. That’s why we need Jesus. Because we all sin and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Because none of us can, by our own energy or strength… believe, forgive, love as God calls us to.
Instead, we rely on the power of God that comes to us in and through the Holy Spirit.
Perhaps your question is even more fundamental. You are enough for God because you are God’s creation. One that God looks at and says, “This is good.” One that God loves dearly because you are God’s creation. Dearly enough to send his son, Jesus, so that we might not die, but live. Live a life fuller and more abundant than life without God.
You are enough, because God says you are. You are enough, not because of anything you do, but because God created you. You are enough, because God loves you. Period.
